In 1818, Louis Charles Pillivuyt recognized the advantages porcelain had over earthenware and other porous competitors, and set about creating his own combination of raw materials to make the highest quality porcelain possible. The company flourished, gaining an international reputation and becoming the choice of many royal households.

Over the years Pillivuyt won five consecutive universal exhibitions — in Paris, London, and Paris again — and established itself as one of the global leaders of French porcelain as early as 1823. More than two centuries later, it remains one of the last porcelain manufacturers to maintain 100% French production, made entirely at their historic factory in the Berry region of central France.
